I specialise in creating one-off custom paint schemes, murals and designs for your bike, helmet, leather, guitar...etc. Please note, I don't paint things back to standard or do just standard repairs (unless they are required prior to me putting my custom paintwork on).
It when I receive a metal item for paintwork, there is evidence of corrosion coming through then they will need shotblasting - no shortcuts I'm afraid. I will arrange for that to be done as part of the job. If when the the metal parts come back it is obvious that the corrosion is particularly bad then I won't work on them. The customer will still need to pay for the shotblasting that has been done so please be aware.
Because I use high quality materials and spend a long time on the finishing to make it as good as possible, I will not be cheap in comparison with a standard bodyshop. You'll have to go elsewhere for a cheap coat of paint if that's all you require. If you want fast Internet connection you invest on a good broadband connection, right? Same thing goes for custom paints. Great quality comes with a price.
Our aim is to achieve as high a quality in our work as possible and that means putting the hours in. This must therefore be reflected in the price. Please take a look at my general pricing guide where I have given examples of the sorts of prices I charge for different types of job.
Part of the service incorporates digital mock-ups that I put together in Photoshop before paintwork is started on a bike, trike, helmet or other item. This enables design ideas to be seen in context before work is started. Payment for this service is incorporated into the overall price for the job and not charged for separately.
There is no limit to the type of design that can be put onto your bike, or trike. If you like something specific that you have seen, let me know and I will come up with a similarly styled but individual design for you, rather than produce a carbon copy of someone else's work. Please be aware though, that the more complex the design is, the higher the overall price will need to be to reflect the work that has gone into it.
Please be aware, I can only work on fibreglass or kevlar composite helmets. If your helmet is made from poly-carbonate/thermoplastic then we cannot work on it because the solvents in some or all of the materials may severely compromise the shell. If you are planning to have a new helmet painted it would be wise to check with the retailer exactly what it is made from before purchasing.
If you are unsure please contact me and I will be happy to discuss the suitability of your helmet for painting.
Leather is a really good surface to paint on. I use a range of acrylics to produce anything from cartoons to photographic likenesses. The paint is waterproof and flexible. It should last as long as the leather underneath is sound. Please note though, if the leather is weak then the paint has little to hold onto and might split over the weakened area.
Before I begin the design, I clean the leather with methylated spirits to remove any grease, grime or excess dye. Between coats of paint I use a heat gun to dry and cure the paint thoroughly before the next application. I then use Createx clearcoat to seal the design in. Finally a good quality saddle soap is used to replace any waterproofing properties that may have been removed by the methylated spirits.
There are still leather jackets around that I painted are in the mid-eighties that are in very good condition so you should expect your leather art to last the lifetime of the garment.
