I painted this leather jacket back in the mid 1990s for a shop called Metal Head which was on Carnaby Street in London at the time. I think this was a commision for a customer but it might have just been going up for sale in the shop. If you have the jacket or know of its whereabouts I'd be very interested to find out where it has ended up.
The artwork is taken from a well known airbrush painting by H.R.Giger called Li II which was originally created in 1973/74. The face in the painting is that of Giger's then partner, Li Tober, who unfortunately committed suicide in 1975.
The jacket was painted in acrylics, as was the original artwork. For a piece of leather art I think it was very effective and captures the feel of the original, but I'd like to think I'd be able to create something even closer if I was asked to paint it now.
