I was asked to paint this Davida open-faced helmet to look like the Captain America worn by Peter Fonda in the film 'Easy Rider'. Instead of straight colours though, I used House of Kolor candies over a metallic base to make the red stripes and blue base very deep and rich.
The white stars were then carefully masked up and airbrushed on - not easy on a spherical surface!!
Several coats of clear were then sprayed on and then sanded down to get rid of the raised edges that had ben created by the coats of candy. Once the surface was smooth another coat of clear was added containing fine gold flakes to give the scheme a real sparkle.
Next came the Evil Elmo character. This was a request by the customer because his last name is Elms. I used an appropriate font for the lettering and added a white halo to make it stand out.
The final clearcoating was added by myself and the helmet was then wetsanded and polished back up to a high gloss shine before being returned to its owner.
