This was one of the earlier jobs that came in when I initially went full time with the business in 2004. Les from Harrogate races Ferraris and wanted a one-off helmet paint scheme to wear on the track.

I can't remember which model of Arai this helmet is but I think it was one that was designed for the track.

After stripping it down and prepping the surface, I basecoated the helmet in a bright light blue. I then carefully cut out hexagonal masking for the honeycomb pattern before airbrushing the highlights and lowlights on to great a 3d effect.

Once that was completed I built up the yellow and black checked area and the St.George's flag down each side.

The final feature of the design was the cartoon of the Slagg Brothers from Whacky Races on the back of the helmet. This was built up with cut out masking and airbrushing before the black outlines and detail were handpainted on.

The helmet was clearcoated and polished by Steve Edwards before being rebuilt and dropped back to Les in Harrogate.
