Owner Carl has been dreaming of his ideal bike for years and he finally put it into action with this project. The Harley Fatboy supplied by Eddy's at Leeds has been fitted with a variety of after market parts to make this a really one-off bike but it needed paintwork to match.
Taking stills from the Terminator films, my brief was to recreate the desolate war-torn landscapes from the future scenes in these movies. No Arnie likenesses on this bike though - that's been done plenty of times before.
On the front fender, I started by building up layers of realistic flames using a white base and House of Kolor candies to add the colours. Thanks to Andy Stroud at Hairy Designs for a few pointers on which candies work the best for this kind of work. On top of flames went the head of a terminator emerging through the fire. The red pupils made it look particularly menacing. To the rear of the front fender the flames fade out and the landscape fades in so that the whole scheme flows along the bike.
The petrol tank is divided down the middle by the instrument panel so the scenes were airbrushed down the sides and fade towards the centre. On the left are several terminators brandishing weapons walking along the landscape. On the right are the flying machines from the films. Smoke helps to fade the artwork into the base black and flow along the length of the bike.
On the rear fender, the landscape continues with skulls and bones visible along with wreckage and tree stumps, plus more smoke. This fades out and flames fade in to complete the way the design began on the front fender.
The tank and fenders were finished in multiple coats of DuPont lacquer and highly polished before being taken (carefully) back to Eddy's for refitting.
