The Bat Out of Hell cover has been the subject of countless pieces of my custom artwork over the last 20 years or so - on countless leather jackets as well as spare wheel covers and I think this is the fourth motorcycle petrol tank I've painted it onto. This is the one I think it has worked the best on though.

Jim from Blackpool brought the panels over to me in early 2007 and I got to work on it. The size and shape of the tank seem to work perfectly with the design and it wraps itself around just right. The orange, red and brown of the sky fade neatly down the edges into the black base and the Harley shield logo was airbrushed onto either side using the same colours as the main image.

The designs on the side panels were designed by myself using the original artwork as inspiration. The dark chapel on one of them has a cloud of bats swarming out of the top - I particularly like that effect.

I clearcoated and polished the panels myself and was really pleased with the overall effect. I've painted this design so many times I should be fed up with it by now, but it's such an effective piece of work that it still does the business!
