As well as a portfolio of work, I want to start building up a library of resources and information related to web design, development and graphic design. The Internet is constantly changing and re-inventing itself. As the generators of content and resource, we have to do the same, which isn’t always easy – we all get set in our ways and enjoy the comfort of the we’re we’re used to of doing things.
The Open Source community is large and vibrant and, best of all, free to use. By helping to promote open source products and showing people how they can get good results without necessarily shelling out hundreds or even thousands of pounds on expense software suites, I hope to do my bit from here.
I’ll start off by detailing my own set-up and then going into more detail about how I use it, as well as comparing open source applications with their commercial counterparts.
